Founded in 1209, the University of Cambridge remain's the world's top university and leading academic center.  It is made up of self-governing and independent colleges with its own property and income.  It is regarded as one of the most difficult schools to get into because of its very stiff and highly competent admission process. The central administration of the university is composed by the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor. His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, had been the university's Chancellor until his retirement in June 2011 on his 90th birthday. He was succeeded by Lord Sainsbury of Turville, David Sainsbury.
