How Fortune Magazine conducted the survey?
Fortune started with 1,400 companies around the world ranked by revenues of more than US$10 billion, they will then select the top largest for each industry, surveying a total of 687 companies from 30 countries. Their survey partner is the Hay Group, a global management consulting firm that conducts surveys and research for the World's Most Admired Companies list since 1997. The Hay Group conducted the survey by asking executives, directors and analysts to rate companies in their industry based on nine (9) criteria: Innovation, People Management, Use of Corporate Assets, Social Responsibility, Quality Management, Financial Soundness, Long-term Investment, Quality Products and Services and Global Competitiveness.
To arrive at the 50 Most Admired Companies, according to Fortune, the Hay Group will then asked the 3,800 respondents to select the companies they admired most from a list of companies that ranked in the top 25% in the previous year survey and from a list of companies that finished in the top 20% of their industry.
For 2013 result here is the Top 50 Most Admired Companies in the World. Apple is on top, still undefeated for the past five years.
